Blog 3

PPD2 blog 3

Continuing from the last point I ended at, I began to work on the eyes of the bird. I selected the faces on the side of the birds head and extruded them out then processed to moving the vertices around
As you can see I did the same on the other side. Birds eye are also quite a bit different from human as they tend to be located on the sides

After I decided to work on the wings as all birds have wings, to start off with I selected faces on the side of the mesh and selected the extruded option

I began to bring them out

I kept extruding the faces out as when rigging the bird it is important to have edges for the mesh to follow the joints

I continued this process by extruding the faces, also I made them narrower each time

Nearly finishing and then made the ends narrower to get a basic shape of the wings
The model coming to the end as you can see is quite block like, so in order to finish it off I selected the smooth option

The end result was this, the smoothing option was important for rigging as well for the skinning

What I learned
In order to create this, at first it was a struggle due to not being able to get the basic shape right. I then went onto this tutorial  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0duSJUO6iKo which helped me a lot as it showed me that even animals such as birds, which I thought would be really simple, still need reference in order to get a decent looking model. This tutorial also explained a lot about how the shape and structure of a bird worked which is very important for a rigger to know and have a great understanding of how living things work. I also realised that the skills I learned by doing this tutorial doesn’t just apply to modelling birds but also to other animals such as dogs, which I am planning to do. I feel a lot more confident in my modelling skills in the way that when applying for a job it would show I have more to offer than just rigging.
