blog 7

PPD2 blog 7
Continuing from where I ended the last blog, I started working on the dogs ears; I started by selecting the faces on the sides of the head

I extruded the side of the faces and scaled them down

I then selected the middle of the new faces

I then extruded the faces out

I then selected the bottom faces and extruded them downwards

I then repeated this

I continued this

Now the length of the ears is finished, I went onto the front view and began to select the vertices, on both the right and left ears

I began to move them

To get the shape of the ears

I also found I needed to space it out more

After I began to adjust the mesh to make it smoother

I added an extra edge to make it smoother and it was also important for the next step

This was because I needed new vertices to give the ears a point

Now the ears were finished, I decided to move onto the nose. A dog nose is very different from humans as it tends to be more rounded and smaller

I extruded the faces I had selected and I brought them out

After I added an edge to the nose

After making the nose rounder, the model was nearly complete

In order to finish it off, I selected the mesh and went onto the mesh smooth option

I then smooth the mesh as you can see in the image below

What I thought

By doing this, I feel I have improved a lot, when doing this I didn’t follow a tutorial, instead I used what I had learned from the bird modelling tutorial, applying the same technique in order to make the dog. I found that modelling the dog was a lot more time consuming and was a lot harder to do, I feel this was because mammals with four legs are a lot more complex and harder to design; I also feel this will show in the rigging as well.
